Paying to get to where you're going faster.
That's the idea behind a project the Florida Department of Transportation says is just a few years down the road.
They're called express lanes.
On certain parts of I-295 one additional lane will be built in each direction. That lane will be used for people that want to pay to use it.
The tolls will work a lot like Sunpass -- drivers will pay electronically.
Those against the lanes say it leaves some people out.
"It sounds like the haves and the have nots. The people that can afford it can have it - the ones that cant afford to pay the extra - they have to sit in traffic," said Edonia Bensle.
"A lot of times in rush hour I have to get on the other side of town - and if there's an extra lane that i have to pay for I'm willing to pay to get there faster," said Zane Dollar.
According to FDOT, the cost of getting in the express lane will depend on the time of day and the demand.
The lanes will be built in three sections. FDOT says the tolls won't go into effect until the project is completely finished.
