JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A man accused of kidnapping his two-month-old son late Sunday night made a first appearance before a judge Monday.
Percy Wilson, Jr., 23, allegedly forced his way into the child's mother's home in the 11000 block of Harts Road, according to a release from the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
Once inside the apartment Wilson allegedly fired a shot, took the infant and fled, the release detailed.
Detectives identified several locations where Wilson might have fled to and began a search. Wilson was found a short time later at a family member's home on East 21st Street and taken into custody without incident.
The baby was medically assessed by Jacksonville Fire and Rescue and returned to the care of the mother.
Wilson is facing charges of interference with custody, possession of a firearm or ammunition by a convicted felon and discharging a firearm in public from a vehicle within 1,000 feet of any person.
According to police, Wilson has a history of mental illness and has recently made threats against the child.
Wilson claims he did not have a gun. According to Duval County Clerk of Court records, Wilson was convicted of Grand Theft Auto in 2008, making him a convicted felon and unable to possess a firearm.
His next court appearance is January 14.
