LAKE CITY, Fla. -- A 21-year-old woman runs away from the scene of a crime with a child in her arms Sunday at about 5:20 p.m.
The suspect is accused of stealing $121.75 worth of merchandise from Walmart on US 90 West. Lake City Police located the suspect shortly after the incident was reported. She was identified as Shakkiyya Carstarphen.
Carstarphen was able to free her hands from handcuffs and open the police car door by reaching her hand through the open window and grabbing the door handle from the outside. The child who was with the woman was released to family members at the scene. Carstarphen is held at Columbia County Detention Center and charged with shoplifting, child endangerment, resisting arrest, escaping police custody and two outstanding warrants in Columbia County.
