UPDATE, 12/30/13: The victim has been identified as 47-year-old James Duggan. The investigation is ongoing, according to JSO Public Information Officer Shannon Hartley.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A man was fatally stabbed following an altercation late Monday night.
Patrol officers with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office responded to a suspicious death in the 5600 block of Leslie Road around 12:15 a.m., according to JSO Sgt. Michael Paul.
Police found a male in his mid to late forties fatally wounded in the roadway. Jacksonville Fire and Rescue also responded to the scene and pronounced the man deceased.
Police have a person of interest in custody and are in the process of interviewing multiple witnesses, according to Sgt. Paul. At this point in the investigation, police believe the victim was at a residence in the Wesconnett area of the Westside and tried to break up a fight between two woman when he was stabbed.
The identity of the victim has not been released and the investigation is ongoing.
