JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A crash Wednesday night in the Killarney Shores area of the Southside left a church with major damage.
The Church of Pentecost in the 8700 block of Hogan Road was severely damaged after a Lexus SUV slammed into the church's coffee and bookstore around 11 p.m. Witnesses call the site of the crash, 'devastating' and 'bizarre,' but the church said donations will help cover the cost of the damage.
Pastor Rick Olson said the driver allegedly ran a red light on Belfort Road, hit a tree and then rammed straight into the place of worship.
The driver left a hole about 15 feet wide, and witnesses tell us that driver was taken to an area hospital following the crash. No one was in the church when the crash occurred, but the coffee shop inside was damaged.
