JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Jacksonville leaders are making changes to The Landing in hopes of making it a place where people want to go.

There are several proposed changes for 2014 including more restaurants, retail space and more parking.

A 607-space parking-lot broke ground last month at 37 Hogan Street, right across the street from The Landing.

The project is costing $7.4-million and Haskell Construction of Jacksonville is spearheading the Parador Garage.

According to Senior Project Coordinator, Kevin Lariviere, the garage will offer free parking for Landing visitors and employees.

Mary Ellen Gwynes, an employee at Riverside Gourmet shoppe says she pays between $90 and $125 a month, just to go to work.

"It definitely puts a drain on the finances," said Gwynes. "It's hard to scrape together the money to pay to go to work."

The parking garage should be finished by August of 2014.
