By Angela Spears First Coast News JACKSONVILLE, FL -- Thousands of bags are packed and just about ready to go. Volunteers with the Searcy Foundation stuffed them with canned vegetables, cookies, crackers, all the necessities for a Thanksgiving meal. They will give them away today to families in need. Instead of turkeys, families will get hens. Leon Searcy, Sr., the Vice President of the Foundation says he'd like to give everyone a turkey, but he just can't afford it. Despite that, he says this year has been the biggest so far. He hopes to feed 10,000 people. New this year, the Searcy Foundation teamed up with Food Lion. You can help out as well, just drop off donations at any Food Lion Store or stop by The Church of the Living God in Arlington at 5770 Harris Avenue, that's where the giveaway is taking place. The Thanksgiving Giveaway started at 8 this morning. Volunteers will hand out bags until they run out. If you plan to pick a bag with all the Turkey Day goodies, all you need to bring with you is a Searcy Foundation Giveaway card from Food Lion. You can pick them up, free, at any Food Lion grocery store. Just ask for them at the Customer Service Desk. For more information on the Searcy Foundation, call (904)992-2377.
