At about 10:30am Saturday Morning, the Jacksonville Jaguars embarked on their 2008 voyage, one they hope ends up in Tampa at the sight of the Super Bowl.
Not as many bodies in camp this year as last, NFL Europe exemptions are gone and the Jags have 5 players on the PUP or physically unable to perform list. Those include Tight End George Wrighster, WR Reggie Williams and WR Jerry Porter. That means the Jags have only 75 players today vs. 87 they had at the start of last years camp, meaning that Jack Del Rio will make some subtle changes to the practice schedule.
David Garrard stood out on day one. He should after signing that contract extension in the off-season. He threw some beautiful passes including a couple of deep ones to the wide outs. Garrard knows this is his team now, won't have to look over his shoulder, and many in the organization feel like he will be even better than last season.
Top draft pick Derrick Harvey was not at camp today. He is now officially a hold out, the teams first since Byron Leftwich 5 years ago. Don't expect to see Harvey on the practice field today, this hold out could go on a while after seeing what Jets top pick Vernon Gholston received as the number six overall pick.
Matt Jones is back with the team after meeting with the media yesterday and expressing remorse over his off season arrest. He made a beautiful catch down the sidelines on a deep ball. However there was a minor incident with a fan who screamed at Jones from behind the fences on the far side of the practice fields about that arrest.
Practice continues tonight for the Jags. They will be in pads on Monday night for the annual "Oklahoma drills" tradition.
