JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Despite the rain and the cold there was a great turnout collecting food and toys for our neighbors in need.

First Coast News spent the past two days collecting food and toys at several locations as part of our Hero Central Project.

There was a steady stream of folks coming out in the wet cold all day Saturday to donate at the Orange Park Mall and the St. John's Town Center.

By the end of day, 2 truckloads were filled with food and toys for the Second Harvest Food Bank.

"Turnout has been better today. The weather has been better. We've collected 3,500 to 4,000 toys and probably 20,000 pounds of food. So, today has been really great," said Gary Porter, Second Harvest Director of Operations.

Second Harvest will distribute the food and toys to the various charities across the area for the holiday season.
