NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Joe Overstreet's attorney, Shawn Sirgo, was in Louisiana when Putnam County Sheriff Jeff Hardy released information that police believe Haleigh Cummings is dead. Sirgo's secretary said his office has not been contacted by authorities regarding the new information.
Overstreet is Misty Croslin's cousin, the last person known to have seen Haleigh alive, according to police. Haleigh disappeared in Feb. 2009.
THE SEARCH FOR HALEIGH CUMMINGS
Authorities have been searching the St. Johns River near Satsuma for the past three days. Hardy said in a news conference today items were found during the search, but he is unsure at this time if they pertain to the case. He added those items are being sent to several independent labs for forensic testing.

Hardy said at this time, he is comfortable calling this case a homicide.
Overstreet spoke with Florida Department of Law Enforcement agents for 45 minutes early Wednesday morning, his attorney added this was just a regular interview. Sirgo said the detectives were on a witchhunt and were just asking for some information.
Sirgo told First Coast News Wednesday Overstreet is innocent and added he has a feeling of where this case is going.
