JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Her name is Phariana. She's 15 and she's tried pizza two times. She giggles just like a teenage girl.

But Phariana was facing life with just one leg, that is, until she met people from Jacksonville.

Phariana lost her leg in the earthquake in Haiti, during which her brother was killed.

She's been through awful times but now she has a wish. Phariana would like a new foot with toes which are divided so she can slide on flip-flops like all the other girls.

Wait until you see her reaction when she hears she might get that special foot. Who's making that prosthetic foot? Experts in Jacksonville.

You'll also meet a man named, "Light." See what he does every morning at 4:30 before the roosters crow - all because of Jacksonville.

And the earthquake amputees? Not bitter. They're grateful to be walking again and they know who's making it happen.

Join us for "The First Coast Stands Up For Haiti," at 8 p.m. Oct. 20 on NBC-12. First Coast News anchor Jeannie Blaylock and photojournalist Bo Harris traveled to Haiti to bring back video you haven't seen on the networks.

This is different than piles of rubble. Much different....and much more uplifting ... all because of the First Coast...

And a side benefit? If your children are always wanting the latest iPod or the newest shoes, make sure you watch as a family. They'll appreciate it the next time they flip on a lightswitch.

Teachers, this is a great opportunity for a lesson in geography, culture, compassion, and current events. Have your students watch.
