JACKSONVILLE, Fla. --  The Florida Striders have done it again.  For the second time in as many years, the track club has set a new world record; this time for the 100 x 5k relay.

The Striders started their latest world record attempt at 2am Friday morning on Daniel Brown Track at Bishop Snyder High School and finished just after 3pm Saturday afternoon in a time of 37:12.53.66.

"It's a very fragile thing, setting a world record.  Just one element out of place, and you fail.  My favorite part is seeing all of the pieces connect and fall into place," said an exhausted organizer Mike Marino.

This is Marino's third successful world record attempt, and his second with the Striders.  Last year he orchestrated an attempt in the 100 x 10k relay that is now in the Guinness Book of World Records.

Saturday's record will have to be veried by Guinness, but all requirements have been met to secure the new mark.

In addition to their accomplishments on the track, the Striders also raised more than $6000 dollars for The Donna Foundation, which cares for the critical needs of First Coast breast cancer patients.
