JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Early Monday an officer found a woman dead in a crashed car. Late Tuesday, police arrested a man suspected of killing her.
Investigators quickly ruled out the crash as the cause of death for 26-year-old Latoye Latresa Jones, as they found what appeared to be a gun shot wound in her chest.
The medical examiner determined the wound was actually a stab wound, and that it wasn't the cause of death either.
Manual strangulation was ruled the cause of Jones' death after the autopsy, and investigators quickly centered on her estranged boyfriend, Kevin Christopher Jones.
Tuesday, he spoke with officers, telling them the two had gotten into a fight and he stabbed her with a knife.
Jones, 25, said he then forced her to drive around the Northside as they continued to argue.
He said once they were driving on Clark Road, he began to strangle her until she lost consciousness.
Jones told detectives he then jumped out of the car shortly before it crashed into a telephone pole, then ran off.
He was arrested on a murder charge and remains in the Duval County jail.
