NASSAU COUNTY, Fla. -- Jacksonville and Nassau County police have confirmed that their detectives are searching this evening for missing Jacksonville woman Michelle McCoy.

Nassau County Sheriff's Office detectives were searching north of Callahan this evening near the Florida-Georgia border. McCoy's family said it is not a search specifically for Michelle McCoy.

But  the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office also has confirmed it is searching near Thompson Road off Kings Ferry Road in the Hilliard area "regarding the disappearance of Michelle McCoy."

According to the JSO, which has been handling the case, the patrol division took an information report Jan. 10 of a possible abduction being witnessed by someone on the Northside. McCoy's family filed a missing person report on the 13th.

Linda Dayson, director of Hurting Families with Children in Crime, a non-profit that counsels the victims of crime and the families of those who commit crimes, said today that no particular evidence led police to that area today.

She told them to check Washington and Thomas streets where McCoy was last seen.

McCoy's sister said she last heard from her Michelle McCoy when she headed out to meet someone; it is unclear who she was meeting.

A witness has said he saw three people in a van on Washington Avenue on the Northside around the same time. The witness said he watched as the girl tried to escape before a "slender-built man" got out and forced her into the van.

He said she started screaming. The witness said he last saw the van around the Lem Turner and Belvedere Road area.
