JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The man police believe fired the fatal shots that led to the victim crashing through several people's yards has turned himself in.
The shooting happened May 9 in an apartment complex parking lot on California Avenue on the Westside.
According to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, the victim, 34-year-old William Rene McFaline, then accelerated his car, which had been parked.
The car crashed through a fence and went through several yards before crashing into a tree.
By the time rescue personnel reached McFaline, he was dead from multiple gunshot wounds.
Detectives determined that McFaline and 20-year-old Rasean Maurice Vann had planned to conduct a drug transaction, as they had done on previous occasions, according to JSO Lt. Rob Schoonover.
Schoonover said it appears Vann intended to rob McFaline at the time of the shooting.
With witness testimony and evidence, including several .40 caliber shell casings recovered at the scene, detectives determined Vann was the shooter and obtained an arrest warrant Tuesday.
Wednesday, Vann turned himself in, and he remains jailed with no bond on a murder charge.
