ST. AUGUSTINE-AP -- A St. Johns County high school stadium will be getting a face-lift this summer, courtesy of the NFL, which plans to use the public school facility as a training field
for one of this year's Super Bowl teams.
The St. Johns County School Board unanimously approved the deal with the NFL yesterday to renovate Bartram Trail High School's football field in time for Super Bowl 39 in Jacksonville on February Sixth.
Schools Superintendent Joseph Joyner says it's a great deal with "minimal intrusion."
According to the agreement, the NFL will install new lockers, renovate the existing field to professional standards and construct a new practice field.
Work on the fields is expected to begin soon, and the school, located just across the county line from Jacksonville, will get to keep the upgrades following the game. The cost was not released.
