JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Dozens of people, many of them right off the couch, have just completed their first 5k and are now ready to take on one of the greatest goals of their lives, running a marathon or half marathon.
Vickie Bradley is one of those runners. She has never run in her life, but decided this year it was time to make some changes. Completing the 'Getting Started' Galloway training with her first ever 5k brought her to tears.
"It's something I've always wanted to do, and I didn't want to let my weight be a reason to deter me from pushing to a goal," she said.
It's a special week for Vickie. She's getting married on Saturday at 5 p.m., but she said before she heads to the church, she will join hundreds of others for the official kickoff to 26.2 With Donna marathon training.
"I'm definitely going to make it my business to be out there at 7 a.m. This is the best thing I've ever done for myself," she said.
She'll also be running for others. 100 percent of the proceeds and raised funds from 26.2 With Donna go to breast cancer research and care.
Training for 26.2 With Donna, The National Marathon to Finish Breast Cancer begins officially at 7 a.m. Saturday at the race headquarters at 2107 Mango Place in San Marco.
