TAMPA, Fla. -- U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder is in Florida to bring attention to the rampant problem of illegal prescription drugs.
The federal prosecutor's office in Tampa says Holder is scheduled to speak at a news conference there Friday afternoon.
Holder will address efforts to combat the illegal distribution of prescription drugs in the country's fourth-largest state. Florida has become known as the nation's epicenter for prescription drug abuse because of its "pill mill" pain clinics.
Officials have taken steps recently to further regulate the clinics. Doctors and pharmacists began using a new prescription tracking system on Sept. 1 designed to help crack down on the clinics selling strong painkillers to addicts and drug dealers.
