JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Four young men competed at UNF this morning during the 4th Annual MLK Oratorical Competition.
The competition is put on each year by Jacksonville's local chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated, Upsilon Lambda.
"What this is, we reach out to our high school seniors to orate on topics that the youth are dealing with in society," said Raynard Mayberry with Alpha Phi Alpha.
This year's topic is bullying. After the judging, Malcolm Chapman was chosen as the winner.
"It feels good to win. It was a close competition. I think everyone else did good," said Chapman.
The Stanton College Prep senior gets a $5,000 scholarship. He's deciding between Georgia Tech or University of Florida where he'll major in Biomedical Engineering. He says the money will be a big help.
"It is a blessing. It is a blessing to be able to write that check," said Mayberry.
The other contestants will receive $500 stipends toward books once enrolled at a college or university.
