JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A woman has been charged with murder/non-negligent manslaughter in the shooting death of her boyfriend.
Maria Eileen Bratton, 55, and her boyfriend, Cecil Scroggie, 57, got into a fight at a home in the 11000 block of Williams Avenue in the early hours of Wednesday morning. Bratton then shot and killed Scroggie, according to a report from the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
Bratton then ran to a neighbor's home on Tracer Avenue. The neighbor called a Jacksonville Beach Police Officer who lived in the neighborhood. When that officer arrived at the neighbors home, he detained Bratton and called JSO.
When JSO officers arrived, Bratton told them she shot and killed Scroggie. While being interviewed by officers, Bratton changed her story and gave details that were inconsistent with physical evidence, according to the police report.
Bratton's criminal history dates back to 1990 with charges including disorderly intoxication, battery, making threats, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill, possession of controlled substance and resisting an officer without violence.
