BRADFORD COUNTY, Fla. -- A teenager driving a 2002 Ford SUV lost control of her vehicle, running into semi and triggering a fuel spill of between 50 and 60 gallons Wednesday evening, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Jaquelyn Charo, 17, of Lawtey was driving on U.S. 301, about a half mile south of County Road 225 Wednesday evening. Charo lost control, hitting Kalabic Zijad's 2005 Volvo Semi.
Charo suffered minor injuries and was taken to Shands Starke Regional Medical Center in Starke. Zijad, of St. Petersburg, was not injured. The Florida Highway patrol estimates the damage at approximately $5,000 to the Ford and $6,000 for the Volvo.
The clean-up from the fuel spill was expected to take several days, according to the FHP release.
Charges are pending. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts.
