JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Jacksonville Public Library honored Black History Thursday by unveiling its 24th Black History Calendar.

This year's Black History Calendar theme recognizes the 150th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation by President Abraham Lincoln and the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington.

First Coast News Meteorologist Steve Smith emceed the unveiling.

The calendar is the byproduct of collaboration between Library Board of Trustees Chair Dr. Brenda R. Simmons-Hutchins and the late Clovia Russell.

"The 2013 calendar continues the tradition with an added element of wisdom and insight from some of the First Coast's most promising citizens," said Simmons-Hutchins in a release from JPL.

This year's calendar theme mirrors the national theme for Black History Month which is designated by the Association for the Study of African American Life and History.

The calendars are free and at available library branch locations throughout Duval County during the month of February.
