JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- It was the night of his life for a senior student at a homecoming basketball game at Fernandina Beach High School.

Tyler Morris is autistic and loved by his fellow students at Fernandina Beach . He was pumped up this Friday night, one of 12 male students nominated to the homecoming court .

"It means for me to be excited about it, it means good things to come my way," said Morris.

Morris brought flowers to school one day and asked Mariah McMullen to escort him at homecoming. She immediately accepted. Mariah made Tyler a sash saying "Tyler is my King."

"I think she was a pretty girl, for her to be my escort, and also I think she will do good, really good, really really good," said Morris.

"I am really flattered he asked, I am really excited and I really can't wait," said McMullen. "I have been a nervous wreck all day. He is just the sweetest thing, he can talk to anyone, he just has a heart of gold really."

Tyler's mother Aggie Morris was beeming.  " I couldn't be any prouder.  I couldn't be any prouder of the students for voting him in, I really couldn't. He makes every day wonderful, he really does. I have never seen him happier. This school is amazing. They have taken Tyler under their wing. Kids are wonderful, they watch out for him. They never tease him. They are just good kids. "

As he was introduced at halftime , Morris and his escort got a huge ovation from the student body. And just a few minutes later what seemed like the inevitable, Morris was announced as the King of the court.

"I think it is awesome, it is the awesomest time I have ever had in my whole entire life," said Morris as his fellow students chanted "Tyler, Tyler, Tyler!!""

"No words can describe it, it is wonderful, just absolutely wonderful," said his father Carl Morris. "He is having a ball, it is a wonderful time for him, he looked so forward to this, we are so blessed."

Rob Meeks, a guidance counselor and faculty sponsor of the Student Government Association, said Morris had the highest vote total of anyone in the ten years he has been running the homecoming event.

One reason the students love him is Tyler has the unique ability to ask her birthday, and he never forgets it. And you can give him the date you were born and he can tell you what day you were born on. He did it for this reporter, I  told him my birth date in 1955 and within seconds he told me I was born on a Thursday, and he was spot on.
