TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- One item that the Florida Legislature will take up on Tuesday is getting a lot of attention on the First Coast: Gov. Rick Scott's proposal to pay teachers more money.

According to Scott's proposal, each teacher across the state would get an additional $2,500. He tasked the Legislature with figuring out how to make it happen.

Sen. Rob Bradley of Orange Park said lawmakers want to pay teachers more: they just have to figure out how it can be done.

"The question is, how do we go about designing a system so that we appropriately recognize the really good teachers and pay them more than the average teachers," Bradley said. "And that's an ongoing discussion we're going to be having. But let me just be clear: The Florida Legislature wants to come up with a way to make sure that our teachers get paid more than they do right now."
