ORLANDO, Fla. (WESH) -Dramatic video from a sheriff's office helicopter shows deputies chasing a man accused of kidnapping his 18-year-old neighbor Monday.
Orange County Sheriff's Office deputies said John Kersey, 33, lured the girl when she was walking home from school and then tied her up.
"He happens to live just a few houses down from the victim," Lt. Paul Hopkins said. "You never know what goes on in the mind of a bad guy when they do these kinds of things -- especially such a heinous crime as this."
Deputies said Kersey held the victim at knifepoint while his own girlfriend was inside the house.
At some point, the victim was able to untie herself and ran to a neighbor's home. She then called 911 and told investigators what happened.
"While we had a perimeter going, our helicopters saw this man try to escape out of a window and take off on foot. Our deputies had the place surrounded and we were able to get him into custody without any injuries," Hopkins said.
Kersey was taken to a hospital after the takedown. They said he had some sort of medical condition prior to the chase. He will be booked into the Orange County Jail once he is treated.
