JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A Jacksonville man is free after being stuck inside a tar filled tank on the Northside for more than 7 hours on Friday.

The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department responded to a call of a man stuck up to his knees in a tar tank.

The 45-year-old man was working in the tank at Atlantic Coast Asphalt, 5970 Soutel Drive, according to JFRD spokesperson Tom Francis.

He was in the tank to cut a steel pipe with pipe cutters. Francis said a person can work in a tar tank, as long as they keep moving but the man forgot to move around for a while and the tar hardened.
Francis said the man was not in danger or in distress, but was given oxygen by JFRD since the fumes were so strong.

Two firefighters used peanut oil to try to slide the man out of the tank.
Rescue crews were able to rescue the man just shortly before 11 p.m. Friday night.
