BRADFORD COUNTY, Fla. -- The Mayor for the city of Hampton was arrested Monday on drug charges, authorities said.
According to a release from the Bradford County Sheriff's Office, Mayor Barry Layne Moore was arrested in Polk County about 4:50 p.m.
"This isn't Toronto," Bradford County Sheriff Gordon Smith said in a statement. "We will not tolerate illegal drug activity in my jurisdiction, by anyone to include our elected officials."
Moore is charged with possession of a controlled substance and sale of a controlled substance, both felonies.
His arrest followed a tip that Moore was selling prescription medication, the release said.
Bradford deputies say their investigation found the mayor had obtained and sold the narcotic painkiller Oxycodone.
The Sheriff's Office said Moore is being held on a $45,000 bond.
