JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- UPDATE: The body of John L. Engleman, 62, the operator of the boat involved in the accident, was recovered by Jacksonville Sheriff Office divers around 11:30 p.m. Gilbert Salinas Jr., 52, was the passenger was rescued by another boater Saturday and taken to a local hospital in serious condition.
One man was seriously injured and another is missing after the boat they were riding in collided with a buoy Saturday morning.
Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Sargent Melissa Bujeda said the two men were in a boat traveling in the St. Johns River near Trout River around 10:10 a.m.
The two men were ejected into the water when the boat struck a buoy near buoy 63, Bujeda said.
One man never resurfaced.
The second man was rescued by a boater passing by and taken to a nearby marina. He was later transported to a local hospital with serious, non life-threatening injuries, Bujeda said.
JSO along with Jacksonville Fire Rescue, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, the Coast Guard and other boats are searching for the missing boater.
Neither boater has been identified.
