WINTER HAVEN, Fla. -- The grandson of former Florida State University football coach Bobby Bowden was one of two people found dead inside a submerged car in Polk County on Thursday.

One man was rescued.

The car was spotted by workers in a garbage truck at about 7:47 a.m. The three men inside were driving home from a bar and crashed through a wooden fence at about 2 a.m., deputies said.

The vehicle was hidden from passersby in normal-sized vehicles, but the height of the Florida Refuse truck allowed the workers to spot it.

Divers were called to the scene and heard signs of life from inside the car. Robert Lewis Edwards, 22, of Boca Raton, was submerged up to his neck and was treated for hypothermia and other injuries at Winter Haven Hospital.

The driver, Rafael Fernandes De Aguiar Valim, 25, and the front-seat passenger, Bowden's grandson, Taylor Jeffrey Bowden, 23, both of Winter Haven, were dead.

Deputies said alcohol appears to be a factor in the crash.
