CLAY COUNTY, Fla. -- Police are warning residents about fraudulent calls they say are being made to collect money for traffic citations.
The Green Cove Springs Police Department and the Clay County Sheriff's Office say a male caller posing as a law enforcement official is calling residents and telling them they need to pay cash for an overdue ticket to avoid being arrested.
Investigators say one resident made the bogus payment via a pre-paid card but reported it afterwards once he realized it was a scam.
Another resident reportedly realized the call was bogus, hung up and contacted the police immediately to report the scam.
Anyone who has any information about this crime is asked to contact the Clay County Sheriff's Office at 904-264-6512.
