Winter Haven, Fla. -- A Winter Haven man who allegedly attacked his wife then kidnapped her for several days has turned himself in.

Authorities say David Archer, 32, became enraged with his wife on New Year's Eve and repeatedly beat her, even firing a weapon into a wall. Archer's wife eventually talked him into taking her to the hospital, but he allegedly drove them to the Orlando area instead and threatened to kill them both.

Eventually, authorities say Archer drove back to Winter Haven, making another stop along the way and threatening to kill himself by drowning in a nearby lake. Archer reportedly took his wife to the emergency room, threatening her with more harm unless she told a fabricated story about getting into a fight with other women.

"Her face is badly beaten. Her face is all beat up and she could also face nerve damage. She will heal from all of her external injuries," says Jamie Brown, Winter Haven Police Department Public Information Officer.

After she received treatment, Archer reportedly drove his wife to a hotel on Highway 27 and held her there against her will for two days. He then took her back home on January 3 and left.

Once Archer left, his wife contacted relatives, who called police.

Archer's first court appearance will take place Sunday morning.

He faces numerous charges including kidnapping and aggravated assault.
