By Victor Blackwell First Coast News CLAY COUNTY, FL -- First Coast News has learned 27-year-old Cherion Ek died early this morning after she was hit by a pick-up truck yesterday. She was a teacher's aide at Lake Asbury Middle School. Wilkinson Junior High School teacher, Pat Noll says her heart sank when she learned the bright, enthusiastic teacher's aid she remembered had been in a terrible accident. "She was a lovely young woman, and it is a real tragedy," said her former colleague. After 8 a.m. Thursday morning Cherion Ek, 27, was walking into work at Lake Asbury Middle School. As she crossed the parking lot, Clay County Sheriff's deputies say David Griffis, 20, hit her with his pickup truck. "We had a meeting with faculty and staff... our thoughts and our prayers are with Mrs. Ek and her family." Ed Paulk, Principal of Lake Asbury Middle says, "it was Ek's first year working with special education students at Lake Asbury." She worked with special needs kids at Wilkinson Junior High from 2003 through April of this year. "She was great with the kids, she was very, very good with the students and always knew the right thing to say and do," said Noll. Now, Ek's friends and colleagues are looking for something they can say and do to comfort her husband and two children. On Thursday night, Ek was in critical condition at Shands with her family by her side.
