MIAMI (AP) -- Miss Miami Allison Kreiger celebrated her birthday Saturday by winning the Miss Florida pageant. Kreiger, 23, won a $20,000 scholarship and will represent Florida at the 2007 Miss America pageant.
"It hasn't sunk in yet. This is too good to be true," Kreiger told The Associated Press. "I've got two things to celebrate, so it's even better."
In her yearlong reign, Kreiger said she would work to create awareness of eating disorders and help prevent them with a platform called "HOPE: Helping Other People Eat." Kreiger said she battled an eating disorder herself in high school. She graduated from the University of Florida with a degree in public relations. A competitive baton twirler, she did a routine to "I Will Live For Love" for the talent portion of the competition.
First runner-up Miss University of Central Florida Megan Clementi, 22, will receive a $6,000 scholarship; second runner-up Miss Daytona Beach Kylie Williams, 22, receives a $4,000 scholarship; third runner-up Miss Southwest Florida Lisa Van Alstine, 22, receives a $3,000 scholarship; and fourth runner-up Miss Homestead Danielle Mortimer, 22, won a $2,000 scholarship.
Forty women competed in the 71st annual state pageant.
