Black Expo "Empowering Women" on the First Coast

  • By Angela Spears First Coast News JACKSONVILLE, FL -- The 5th annual Florida Black Expo is back on the First Coast. More than 200 exhibitors will be at the Prime Osborn Convention Center Saturday, September 30. The theme is "Empowering Women." One of the goals is to build relationships between African American business, major corporations and government agencies. There will be a health fair, diversity fair with various minority Chambers of Commerce, workshops and seminars. Organizers think there is something for everyone at the Black Expo. You can go from booth to booth and try different foods. You can also see stars, like actresses Alfre Woodard from ABC's "Desperate Housewives," Gabrielle Union and Kim Fields. The Expo is Saturday from 11 a.m. - 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for kids 5 - 17 and kids under 5 get in free. Before the Expo opens, you can check out the Pre-Expo Gala - "A Night with the Divas." Angie Stone and "American Idol" Winner Fantasia will perform tonight (September 29) at the Times Union Center. The show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $35 and $45 for general admission. VIP tickets cost $70.
