By Ryan Duffy First Coast News JACKSONVILLE, FL -- Angela Corey has been one of the top prosecutors in the State Attorneys Office for 25 years. She's tried more than countless murder cases, and sent half a dozen people to death row. But she says with just eight hours notice yesterday, she was fired. "I didn't get a chance to say, I'm being terminated, but I've loved working with you all these years, I'm running in 2008, and will be right back here that soon," says Corey. She says she didn't run for State Attorney in 2000 and 2004 because she didn't want to run against her boss, current State Attorney Harry Shorstein. But she's made no secret she's running in 2008, and now wonders if that is the reason she lost her job. Either way she will go forward with her 2008 plans, now with more time to start campaigning early. "I don't like having to leave a job I love that much, but knowing I'm going to do everything in my power to get the top job in '08, I can live with that for a couple years and get back to it." First Coast News left several messages with Mr. Shorstein requesting a comment. Under a state law Corey would have to eventually resign to run against her boss, but she wouldn't have had to do that until mid-2008.
