By Jackelyn Barnard First Coast News JACKSONVILLE, FL -- Jennifer Romero sits behind bars in a Clay County jail charged with having sex with a 16 year old boy. According to the police report, the boy told officers officers he and the 30 year old have been having "consensual" sex for the last two weeks. Police say the two were to meet at a gas station in Clay County Tuesday night and run away together. Police found Romero at her home before the alleged meeting took place. "It's crazy, just two doors down. This neighborhood is full of kids of all ages," says Tiffany Levalley, Romero's neighbors. Neighbors say police have been to Romero's home before and they say teenagers have been hanging around the house. Police say Romero's story is unique. One reason why, the suspect is a woman. There are 272 sex offenders and predators in Clay County. Only eight of them are women. "Most of the women are in the late 20s, early to late 20s and the boys are the impressionable 13, 14 and 15 year olds," says Detective Melissa Dangerfield of Clay County's Special Victims Unit. Detective Dangerfield says while the number is small, the abuse is happening more than we think. She says one reason we don't hear about it often is because the crime is under reported. "The 14, 15 year old is certainly not telling mom this woman's taking advantage of me," says Detective Dangerfield. The boy involved in Romero's case has cooperated with police. According to police, he's told them, he and Romero are boyfriend and girlfriend. Romero is being held on a $25,000 bond.
