By Deanna Fené First Coast News PALATKA, FL -- A First Coast family is mourning after a Palatka couple and their son died in a weekend plane crash. The crash happened near the St. Petersburg-Clearwater International Airport on Saturday. The pilot, 31-year-old Joseph Bellamy of Pinellas Park, often took his parents Gordan and Susan Bellamy of Palatka flying; but on Saturday something went wrong and the plane crashed into Tampa Bay. The Bellamy's nephew, Jason Fair says, "they were coming in for a landing. They had come in on the wrong runway. They were notified by the tower. Joey acknowledged the wrong runway. He made a correction and that's when they crashed about a hundred yards off the runway." Three wreaths have been placed at the family business in Palatka. Bellamy Plumbing is a well respected business in the community. Gordan Bellamy owned it with his brothers. Fair says, "the Bellamys here are known throughout the area. It's a big, dynamic, tight family." They were flying a Cessna 172 airplane, which they had chartered for the day. Joseph Bellamy had his pilot's license for about four years. He and his father were even building their own plane. Fair says, "they had a love for life and enjoyment for the community and for each other." They enjoyed life together; and tragically they died together.
