JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The USS Enterprise aircraft carrier will pull into Naval Station Mayport for one last visit Wednesday.

After departing from Mayport the Enterprise will return to Naval Station Norfolk November 4, the carrier's homeport.

The arrival at Mayport will bring to close a seven month deployment where the Enterprise supported operations in the Mediterranean and Arabian seas.

Bill Austin, Public Affairs for NS Mayport, said when the Enterprise returns to Norfolk it will be the 25th and final homecoming in her 51 years of distinguished service.

December 1 a ceremony at Norfolk Naval Station will be held to commemorate the carrier becoming inactive.

The Enterprise is the oldest actively deployed warship in the U.S. Navy's fleet and is the first nuclear-powered aircraft carrier in the U.S. Navy.

Austin said the carrier is the only Enterprise-class aircraft carrier to ever be commissioned.  When she celebrates her 51st birthday November 25, she will become the first aircraft carrier to do so.
