The Stanford University Social Innovation Review called Jon Heymann one of America's "transformational leaders." Last fall, the Journal for the University's Graduate School of Business cited Heymann as an example of the kind of business leader who "creates trusting relationships by challenging the process, inspiring a shared vision, enabling others to act, modeling the way and encouraging the heart."
For the last 20 years, Jon has worked to improve the education system. As a director at St. Johns River Community College, Jon - also a former high school history teacher - launched new dropout prevention programs and he developed a state model program of regional education training centers. He led the 12-county Northeast Florida Education Consortium where he developed new programs that helped teachers find new ways to use technology in classrooms and integrate digital media into their curricula.
He grew the Communities In Schools program in Putnam County from a 3-person start-up agency to the Putnam county's largest and most successful dropout prevention program. He started Putnam county's first Take Stock in Children program.
Then Jon came to Duval County where, as CEO, he grew Communities In School of Jacksonville from a $1.5 million-per-year program to a $7 million-per-year program that helps almost 7,000 at-risk students in 45 local public schools.
Communities In Schools of Jacksonville is the Northeast Florida leading dropout prevention program helping kids each day with mentoring, literacy tutoring, after-school enrichment, case management and scholarships.
