TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- The National Federation of Independent Business is launching a nationwide bus tour in support of Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney.
Small businesses are calling it the "I Built My Business" bus tour. It's a response to President Obama's July comment saying, "If you've got a business, you didn't build that." The president said his point was that cooperation between government and business has helped create the American business system.
But the president's words upset members of NFIB. Florida NFIB Chairman Jerry Pierce says small business owners will vote for Romney because he understands business better.
"I can tell you that when I built my business, I started out in a small office. My desk consisted of two filing cabinets. The desktop was a door. I had one phone line and I took out second mortgages on my home several times and ran credit cards to the limit to make payroll. So I can absolutely guarantee you that Mitt Romney will be a much better president and understand small businesses."
The national bus tour includes seven states. In Florida, the bus is heading to Ocala, Orlando, Tampa and New Smyrna Beach.
