About 485 new jobs are coming to the Pensacola area, Gov. Rick Scott announced today.

Full-scale hiring will get under way this fall at two new companies that announced they would bring nearly jobs to the Pensacola Bay area.

West Fraser Timber Co. Vice President Sean McLaren said the company will begin hiring up to 80 employees on a single-shift basis later this year at its mill in the McDavid community.

West Fraser, a Canadian forestry company, is the largest lumber producing company in North America, McLaren said.

"By early next year we expect to have about 100 employees working a single shift producing lumber products for the home building industry in the Southeast," McLaren said.

IGATE, which owns CHCS Services - an information technology company - will open a customer service center at a former call-center operation on Heinberg Street and 14th Avenue in Pensacola.

Hiring there will get under way later this summer once the company completes the retrofit of the building, said Scott Luth, Greater Pensacola Chamber senior vice president, who helped broker the deal.

Mayor Ashton Hayward said the West Fraser mill opening will be a boon to the City of Pensacola.

"West Fraser will become the city's largest single customer of natural gas from the city-owned Pensacola Energy Co.," Hayward said.
