TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson is calling for an investigation into problems with the state's new jobless claims computer.
Nelson has asked the U.S. Department of Labor to look at delays and other problems experienced by unemployed Floridians seeking unemployment insurance benefits.
Florida switched to a new $63 million online claims system earlier this month and users have complained on social media about widespread problems with it.
Executive director of the Department of Economic Opportunity Jesse Panuccio insisted his agency "continues to work around the clock" to ensure that those seeking claims would be helped. He said he welcomed input from the federal government in order to fix website problems.
Panuccio's agency said it has processed claims from 230,000 people since the system was launched but the DEO has acknowledged delays.
