JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Police have arrested a 21-year-old employee of Walmart on Normandy Boulevard on charges of employee theft.
From March 2012 until October Myra Shedrick put money on Walmart gift cards without paying for them while working as a cashier, according to police.
On Friday morning surveillance cameras recorded the suspect reaching into the top of her shirt and remove a gift card. The police report said she swiped the gift card through the register to put money on it, then removed the transaction from the register.
The suspect repeated the theft at 4:30 a.m. Shedrick was approached by the store manager and confronted about the thefts.
She admitted to police that she had used the gift cards to steal money from the business. Police say she admitted in a written statement she had been doing this for several months.
Shedrick said she needed the money because she had a newborn child. She was arrested and booked into jail on charges of employee theft greater than $300 and less than $5000.
