FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. -- A plane made an emergency landing Wednesday afternoon on Palm Coast Parkway after reporting trouble while it was in flight, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The single prop plane, a Piper PA-28 Cherokee Arrow, was initially going to make an emergency landing on Interstate 95 at mile marker 290 before the Flagler County Sheriff's Office advised the pilot, Raul Desouza of Daytona Beach, to land on Palm Coast Parkway.

The plane landed on the westbound lane of Palm Coast Parkway just west of Bridgehaven Drive at 6:48 p.m. While landing, the plane struck a parked semi truck, located on the shoulder of the road, damaging a beacon on its left wing tip.

A student pilot was also on board the small plane and there were no injuries reported by the FHP.

Desouza made his first distress call at 6:41 p.m. Wednesday to the Jacksonville Regional Communications Center as he was flying over Palm Coast.

Crash scene investigators have not disclosed what types of issues forced Desouza to land the plane.
