JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A man in his twenties was shot multiple times at an apartment complex early Tuesday morning on the Westside.
"People are arguing and going back and forth and the next thing you hear are like four gun shots back to back like pow, pow, pow, pow," said Shy Burney, a resident at the complex.
An argument in the parking lot of Canterbury Gardens Apartments off Lane Avenue is what police say led to a shooting that has critically injured a man.
Police have not identified the victim, but they say he traveled to the gas station on Lennox and Lane Avenue, about a half a mile from the crime scene. They say that's where he collapsed from his injuries.
"Transported to Shands Hospital in critical condition, currently he's undergoing surgery and is still alive as far as we know at this point in time," said Sergeant Jay Farhat, Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
Police are not sure if the victim drove himself to the gas station. They have impounded the vehicle for evidence. Officers say that based on the information they've gathered from witnesses, they believe the motive for the shooting was related to prostitution and drugs. Some residents say they aren't shocked that these crimes are going on in their community.
"Not aware, but I'm grown, I have eyes and anywhere where there's gun violence ,drugs, prostitution is just a door step away," said Keturiah Baker a resident at the complex.
