JACKSONVILLE, FL -- A doctor at Nemours Children's Clinic has secured a grant of nearly $3 million for diabetes research.
Dr. Tim Wysocki, PhD, Principal Research Scientist, is getting a $2.86 million grant from the National Institutes of Health.
Nemours is credited as an international leader in childhood diabetes (Type I) research.
Wysocki and his team are studying the usefulness of continuous glucose sensors in adolescents.
They are implementing a 5-year study to see if there's a better way to treat diabetes in younger patients, who, according to research, are not as likely to fully utilize the data generated by the sensors for diet and exercise control.
The results of the study could have long-reaching effects into health care policy and insurance coverage of continuous glucose sensors.
