MACCLENNY, Fla. -- The family of a girl transferred to the custody of a sex offender is hoping Gov. Rick Scott will help their cause.
Family and friends of 4-year-old Miranda Wilkerson protested again Sunday in front of the Baker County Courthouse. They held signs pleading for Scott's help. They also wanted to make the community aware of the story has been tracking for weeks.
Rebecca Graves, Miranda's aunt, says they are also scheduled for mediation to schedule visitation. She says they haven't seen Miranda since custody was transferred last Wednesday to a registered sex offender, Donald Coleman, who is Miranda's legal father.
Coleman was married to Trista Crews, Miranda's mom, when she was born in 2007. Coleman and Crews were in the middle of a divorce at the time.
The family is planning another protest Monday at 1 p.m. at the courthouse.
