JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. -- A Jacksonville Beach surfer has an unofficial new world record tonight.  Kurtis Loftus broke the existing Guinness record for hours surfed by three hours with a time of more than 29 hours.

He also shattered the record for number of waves caught with 308. The previous record was 147.

Loftus was surrounded the entire time by members of the local surf community.

He emerged from the water just after 8:15 Thursday night, to a champagne bath and more than a hundred supporters.

"It's just a fear versus love thing," he said.

"I wanted to capture the spirit of what 26.2 is all about.  I wanted to push really hard and do something special."

Loftus came up with the idea for the world record, which must still be verified by Guinness, as a way to raise funds for the 26.2 with Donna Foundation which supports bench top breast cancer research at the Mayo Clinic, and the underserved with breast cancer through The Donna Foundation.
