JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The stakes are high and the Gator Bowl Association is going after decision makers and fans, taking a tour bus to ten Southeast Conference schools this fall.
The goal is to put Jacksonville on the map with athletic directors from the SEC and the Big Ten that currently have commitments to play in the TaxSlayer.com Gator Bowl.
Gator Bowl Association Director Rick Catlett says many of these schools don't know much about Jacksonville and Catlett hopes to change that by going on the road.
"They (athletic directors) will be make some pretty big decisions the next six months, will be deciding where the Champions Bowl is going to be and who gets in the BCS the next go around," said Catlett outside EverBank Field.
The bus and staff will make its first stop in Dallas on September 1 for the Michigan-Alabama game and then tour the SEC this season. Next year, the plan is to focus on Big Ten schools.
Catlett says the tour will also include giving away Gator Bowl tickets and scholarships.
