El Paso County investigators now believe they have found the place where the Black Forest Fire started.

The fire has burned more than 8,500 acres North of Colorado Springs since Tuesday afternoon. Nearly 100 homes were destroyed as of Wednesday night.

The El Paso County Sheriff's Office confirms a fire investigator went to look for clues at the suspected site of origin. It's near the intersection of Shoup and Milam Roads. Sheriff Terry Maketa says he expects to get an official report, and he doesn't want to speculate on the cause.
"You are looking for the most minute clues," Maketa said.

Maketa says he can rule out one possibility.

"We don't have any indication of lightning in the area," Maketa said. "So other than that, it could be accidental. It could be many things, and that is what we are looking into."
